Composites

Composites are constructed environments, containing multiple photographs of one subject. Various angles are shot from one vantage point and those images are then selectively blended together to articulate a vision that a single photograph cannot capture. Beginning with an Initial photograph recorded on film, the scanned film negative establishes a grainy, textured foundation. Digital overlays, different angles captured from the same viewpoint, are then applied to create complexity in some areas, while simplifying others. In the end, these compositions investigate a dialogue between the tangible earth and what’s not—what’s above. The large regions of form and color create a space for the viewer, inviting them to put themselves inside to explore. The results are emotional, spiritual and optimistic.
