Good Night Sunshine

Good Night Sunshine

July 23, 2007

The first offering from my new old camera.

I’ve been shooting all my TtV images with a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye. It’s a family heirloom and still in good shape. The main downside, is that it has a very tiny viewfinder, combine that with the fact that I don’t have a macro lens, the actual workable image area when shot with my 50mm prime is miniscule.

I was really happy to find a cheap Argus 75 at Zern’s. This bad boy has a large, bright viewfinder that doubled, if not tripled my image area.

It is a lot easier to work with, and the images are bigger and more clear, but it’s not all good. I really don’t care for the larger rounded corners as compared to subtle ones with the hawkeye. I have found myself thinking that those tiny hawkeye’s images were a large part of the allure of this technique. Breaking away from the clean sharp clarity of my normal digital shooting, and experimenting with the opposite side of the spectrum, low-res through an viewfinder with decades old texture.
